How to Become an Expert in the World of Whisky

Whisky Ambassador is an internationally recognized professional whisky qualification. It was established in 2012 in Glasgow, aimed at educating professionals in the industry, and is now being operated globally.

The English-language Whisky Ambassador course in mainland China was held right here in Shenzhen, on February 4th and March 31st 2018 and were attended by food and beverage professionals from 5-star hotels, local bar and restaurant managers, wine sommeliers and bartenders, and whisky connoisseurs. Whisky Ambassador Course Content:

All teaching materials and exams are bilingual – English and Chinese. Throughout the 7-hour course, participants will be tasting 9 whiskies from Scotland, Japan and USA; while learning the following:

3. The Whisky Areas of Scotland
4. Whisky characteristics
5. How Whisky is Made
6. Nosing and Tasting
7. Drink Less, Drink Better
8. Selling Whisky
9. Mixers and Cocktails
10. Other World Whiskies

 

 

About the Examination and Requirements to Pass:

The assessment lasts 45 minutes and consists of a 30 multiple-choice-question exam and a practical assessment consisting of four whiskies to be identified using nosing and/or tasting. In order to pass the exam, candidates must correctly answer 21 out of 30 questions and correctly identify at least two of the four whiskies. The assessment will be graded by the headquarters in Scotland. Results will be released in one month.

Anna Tam is the first Whisky Ambassador and Accredited WA Tutor in China. She has years of experience in teaching WSET and other international wine courses. She is also a guest speaker in the Chinese University of Hong Kong and an independent wine writer. You may have seen her, or heard her loud laughter, in the hidden whisky bars of Shenzhen.
