The Shenzhen traffic police authority published yesterday an interesting article about recorders that drivers can have installed to more easily report traffic violations to the police in real-time without having to reach for your phone. With devices like this, every car is now a watchful eye.

 

 

Red envelope bonuses are also being awarded to people who actively report traffic violations. 

According to their article, in the first half of 2018, the Shenzhen Traffic Police awarded 3 million in bonuses. Report someone using their mobile phone while driving; for example, and get a 100 yuan reward.

 

Since the “Shenzhen Traffic Police Vehicle Reporting Platform” was opened on December 2nd, 2015, the platform has received 824,436 cases of traffic violations, and 179,791 cases have been approved, with an adoption rate of 21.8%, accounting for about 40% of the total reported amount. The “one-click report” function of the vehicle-mounted instrument can automatically upload the video image to the“Shenzhen Traffic Police Vehicle Reporting Platform" when reporting traffic violations.

 

Reporting Rewards

Note: These are just a few examples. Some have also changed in the past and may change again:

  • Illegal parking at a bus stop: 50 yuan for each award; monthly maximum to reporter: 200 yuan.

  • Motor vehicles illegally parking on sidewalks, crosswalks, fire exits, road network lines (“Huangfangge”), and being fined more than 1,000 yuan: 50 yuan for each award; monthly maximum to reporter: 200 yuan.

  • Motorized vehicle violates the regulations on the road, temporarily parks, obstructs other vehicles and pedestrians, and is fined 500 yuan: 5 rewards of 50 yuan; monthly maximum to reporter: 200 yuan.

 

Others may earn you more; depending on their nature:

  • Reporting unauthorized transportation of dangerous goods on the road (including “environmentally friendly oil”, explosives, flammable and explosive chemicals, and highly toxic, radioactive and other dangerous goods), and each employee shall be investigated for criminal responsibility for 3,000 yuan; Each reward for processing is 1,000 yuan.

  • Reporting that the dump truck has serious overloading violations, each award is 500 yuan.

  • Occupying the bus lane: 20 yuan for each award; monthly maximum to reporter: 200 yuan.

  • Occupying the emergency lane: 50 yuan for each award; monthly maximum to reporter: 500 yuan.

  • If one of the following traffic violations is reported, each award is 50 yuan; monthly maximum to reporter: 500 yuan.

    • Small cars (less than 7 seats) Drivers and passengers do not use seat belts as required.

    • Reporting that the motor vehicle is parked in the “Yellow Square”, while waiting for the road or at the intersection.

    • Light-duty self-unloading trucks (referred to as "small dump trucks") engaged in construction waste, decoration materials, domestic garbage, building materials,etc. illegally install baffles: 100 yuan for each award; monthly maximum to reporter: 500 yuan.

    • Large cars (more than 7 seats) Drivers and passengers do not use seat belts as required: 50 yuan for each award; monthly maximum to reporter: 500 yuan.

Traffic violations can also be reported without the vehicle-mounted recording device via the following seven reporting channels:

  • Report by phone: call 0755-83333333, 110;
  • SMS report: can send information to 12110 SMS platform;
  • Internet Reporting: Go to the website of Shenzhen Traffic Police Bureau www.stc.gov.cn and select “Citizen Reporting;”
