Booming Shenzhen Sees Record Number of Entries/Exits in 1st Half
09 Jul 2019
China's largest port city Shenzhen registered over 130 million entry-exit persons in the first half of the year, up 7.2 percent year on year, the southern Chinese city's immigration authorities said.
Official statistics show that the average daily inspections in the period stood at 726,000, with the maximum daily figure exceeding 1 million, hitting a record high.
A total of 7.23 million ships, planes and trains entered or exited the city border from January to June.
The Shenzhen airport also saw nearly 3 million inbound and outbound passengers on more than 23,000 planes during the period, up 26.7 percent and 16.1 percent year on year, respectively.
The hike is partially attributed to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and a more relaxed visa-free access to Guangdong.
The immigration authorities have streamlined its clearance processes to meet the demands of increasing passengers and adopted big data, quantum communication and AI technologies to promote self-service and efficiency.
