UPDATE: At 3pm, the HKO estimated the tropical cyclone to be in the northern part of the South China Sea, about 480 km south-southwest of Hong Kong, with maximum sustained wind near its center of 55 km/h. The tropical cyclone will move towards the vicinity of Hainan Island today. The Standby Signal No.1 is still in force.

We previously reported on two typhoons heading towards China this week and have been monitoring them closely. Forecasts from the Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau, the Hong Kong Observatory, The Japan Meteorological Agency and Weather Underground all show both typhoons moving further away.
In fact, weather forecasts for this weekend predict sunny days through the entire weekend. We'll update this post if anything changes.
UPDATE: As of September 14th, forecasts from the Shenzhen Meteorological Bureau, the Hong Kong Observatory, The Japan Meteorological Agency and Weather Underground all show both typhoons moving further away. In fact, weather forecasts for this weekend predict sunny days through the entire weekend. We'll update this post if anything changes.
Two back-to-back Typhoons will be hitting China this week. TALIM is expected to make landfall tomorrow, the next is expected Friday.

UPDATE: At 5:30pm, the HKO extended the Thunderstorm warning until 6:45pm.
The HKO issued their Thunderstorm Warning issued at 2:40 p.m. on 12 Sep 2017. It has now been extended until 5:45 p.m. today. Isolated thunderstorms are expected to occur over Hong Kong. Members of the public are advised to take the following precautions when thunderstorms occur:
1. Stay indoors. Seek shelter in buildings if you are engaging in outdoor activities.
2. Do not stand on high grounds. Keep away from highly conductive objects, trees or masts.
On Saturday September 2nd, two internet service providers in the Philippines recently warned their customers that damage to undersea cables caused by recent typhoons near Hong Kong may slow down internet connections. The two ISPs, PLDT Inc. and Converge ICT Solutions Inc., said that repairs could take anywhere from three to six weeks.
“Due to the recent strong typhoon in Hong Kong, multiple international undersea cable links to the city were cut, causing slowdowns of internet connections to web and social media sites hosted there. The Hong Kong Observatory issued a Thunderstorm warning today at 3:10pm; just a day or two before the arrival of Tropical Storm Mawar. At 4:45pm they extended the warning until 7pm. At around 6:30pm Friday September 1st, we started receiving these videos of streets flooding in Shekou.

UPDATE: At 2:10pm, the HKO cancelled its No. 1 Standby Signal. With Mawar weakening into an area of low pressure and continuing moving away from Hong Kong, local winds have further moderated. However, winds on high ground will still be occasionally strong at first. As there are swells at first, members of the public should remain on the alert.
UPDATE: At 1pm, the SZMB cancelled the White Typhoon Warning.
UPDATE: 11:30am. The SZMB has cancelled its Rain Storm Warnings.
UPDATE: At 10:20am, the HKO replaced the No. 3 Strong Wind Signal with the No. 1 Standby Signal.
UPDATE: At 5am September 1st, the HKO announced that Tropical Depression MAWAR was about 560 km southeast of Hong Kong with maximum sustained wind near its center of 55 km/h. Their forecasted trajectory at this time predicts MAWAR affecting Shenzhen sometime Sunday with wind speeds around 110km/h.
