American and Shekou Resident Jim Filbird has spent the last 11 years of his life building a dream in China. It hasn't been easy yet he feels he's now on the verge of obtaining his lifelong goals and desired accomplishments.
On July 31st, 2017 we sat down with him before he embarked on a business trip to the U.S. promoting his latest product, the Turing Phone Appassionato, the next flagship phone from Turing Robotic Industries.

There was a lot of hype this morning about a new self-help supermarket that opened in Hangzhou today. According to an article published by Shekou News today, in this new store, there are no cashiers. Customers enter the store by scanning their phone at metro station-style turnstiles which keeps track of who they are. Then they're body-scanned on the wait out and charged automatically.

On May 30th, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced that effective June 1st, 2017 drone owners are required by law to register their drones, if they weigh more than 250 grams, with the CAAC.
"Drones have become a serious hazard in many Chinese cities, and have severely interfered with civil aviation," said Zhang Ruiqing, deputy head of the Office of Air Traffic Regulation of the Civil Aviation Administration of China. Anyone flying drones illegally will be punished in accordance with public security regulations, the authorities have said.

Starting from April 2017, Shenzhen will start an annual event called "Design Week."
It's said to be the biggest design festival in Shenzhen with various design events and activities taking place during the week all over the city. Over 100 designers from more than 20 cities, including London, Paris, Helsinki, Berlin, Montreal, Detroit, Seoul, Nagoya, Beijing, Shanghai, etc, will toke part in the exhibition, talks, workshops, and more. Over 2000 works will be exhibited in 5 different venues in Shenzhen. The main venue is i-Foctory in Shekou.

A new IMAX movie theater opens today during the opening of the a Shopping Center across the street from Sea World in Shekou. According to IMAX's website, it's the 9th theater to open in Shenzhen.

The Shopping Center, called Gateway One, also houses various other shops new to Shekou; including an Ole Supermarket.

According to the Futian Public Security Bureau Xiangmihu police station, more than 30 Million RMB was stolen from thousands of bank cards, the Nanfang Metropolis Daily reported earlier this month. 33 suspects have been arrested in a police sting investigating modified POS machines.
