Metro Line 5 Extension Connecting Qianhai to Shekou to Start Next Year

According to a representative from the Shenzhen Metro Group, the Metro Line 5 South Extension project, giving Shekou direct access to the Qianhai coastal area, is currently ahead of schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

Part of the second phase of the Shenzhen Metro Phase III, the Shenzhen South Line 5 South Extension Project, will be about 7.65 kilometers in length once completed with seven underground stations. The line will connect to Metro Line 2 and Line 9 West Extension.

The Line extends southward from Qianwan Station, the terminal station of Metro Line 5, which is currently in operation, to Chiwan Station on Line 2, and runs through the Qianhai New Area from north to south.

Located on the western coast of Nanshan District in Shenzhen, Qianhai aims to become the leading force of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a key link of the Belt and Road Initiative, and the “Manhattan of the East,” where financial products, private equity companies, and funding and insurance institutions will thrive. Set to open soon, the Qianhai and Shekou Area of China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone has so far attracted 124,600 companies to settle there.
