SATURDAY: Dance on Screen - Ekman's A Swan Lake (With Director's Talk)
19 Apr 2018
This Saturday, April 21st, watch Dance on Screen - Ekman's A Swan Lake (With Director's Talk) from 3:30pm to 6pm.
Supported by the Nanshan District Publicity Department of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC, the performance, which won the IMZ Dance Screen 2016 Award for Best Live Performance Relay and Camera Re-work, will take place at the Mountain View Theater on the 3rd-4th floor of the Sea World Culture and Arts Center丨Design Society.
Swan Lake premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1877, to the music of Tchaikovsky. What many people do not know is that the original version was a major fiasco and was quickly forgotten. This interested Alexander Ekman – the forgotten Swan Lake, a work about which we know nothing. Now he has chosen to recreate and freely poeticise over this first Swan Lake, the fiasco.

Screendance: A New Visual Language
Screendance (Dance on Screen) is a unique cinematic experience that merges cinematography and choreography. It stirs the imagination and adds a whole new dimension to understanding movement. The screendance genre offers stimulating and sometimes provocative films that, as the name invokes, are never purely about dance nor wholly concerning film. They might, in other words, depict movement in a conceptual context, with all the eccentricities screendance offers as a storytelling medium.
