The much anticipated Sea World Culture and Arts Center (SWCAC) is finally opening to the public with a two-day Grand Opening this Saturday and Sunday December 2nd and 3rd. The opening weekend includes an international conference, outdoor performances, pop-up design workshops and fair to celebrate this special occasion.

International Conference: How Creative Practices Design Society

On December 2nd from 09:00 - 18:00 in the Horizon Hall, 4/F, the SWCAC will host this one-day conference, broken up into four parts, celebrating the milestone of the new design museum. It's free to attend and tickets are separated into two session: Morning and Afternoon. The Morning session tickets include the first two sessions and the afternoon tickets include the last two.

09:30 - 11:15 - China Meets the UK in Design

This first session is dedicated to the achievement of and will reflect on its wider cultural implications of the collaboration between the state-owned enterprise China Merchants Shekou (CMSK) and London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), the world’s first design museum.

‘Values of Design’ explores how values have historically driven the design process. This panel will ask what the future values of design should be, with presentations by a panel of creative practitioners whose work is on display in the V&A gallery.

Design Society has planned a variety of creative and experimental activities for everyone, be it families with kids, curious and ambitious teenagers, casual drop-by visitors or serious or seasoned museum goers, to experience, learn about and be inspired by the wonder of creativity and design.

TAPIGAMI - Shaping the Future of the City Interactive Installation

On December 2nd & 3rd from 10:00-20:00 at the Central Square on Level 1, Design Society joins MakerNet to bring you an invited interactive project, TAPIGAMI - Shaping the future of the city. Incorporating art, design, making and technology, visitors are invited to participate in the creation of a masking tape sculpture which materialises people’s imagination of a future city. It’s a brand new experience of art creation that every visitor is welcomed to participate.

Design Fair

Creativity knows no boundaries. The outdoor public spaces of SWCAC will be invigorated with creative interventions. Design Society has arranged a series of interactive activities to encourage visitors to fully explore the impressive outdoor spaces. Visitors are encouraged to socialise, get creative, dance and enjoy live music by the sea with friends and family.
