At around noon yesterday, a woman was struck in the head by a falling object when she was walking on the sidewalk in front of the Guangcai Xin Shiji Garden complex near Exit D of the Nanshan Subway Station of Shenzhen Metro Line 11.
A doctor on duty at a nearby medical examination center, rushed to the scene after hearing about what happened. The doctor treated her bloody head and assisted in taking her to the hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, a dumbbell weight was found near the woman and is suspected of being what fell from above to hit her in the head.
After a preliminary investigation, police learned that Ms. Wang (female, 32 years old) accidentally caused the barbell weight to fall while she was cleaning her home in the Guangcai Xin Shiji Garden Complex. Wang was taken to the police station for further questioning.
The pedestrian, Li (female, 36 years old) was injured in the head and sent to the hospital for treatment.

Lawyer Zhang Zongbao of Guangdong Weiran Law Firm said that if objects fall due to a person's negligence and cause serious injuries, China's Criminal Law can hold them liable to a maximum of three years in prison. If a person dies due to that negligence, the penalty can be as high as seven years in prison.
Don't be the reason why innocent pedestrians are injured. Please check your home regularly...
- Check that screws and window and door frames aren't loose,
- Check that outer window glass isn't deformed, cracked or loose,
- Check whether hanging objects are secure, and
- whether balcony plants, flower pots, etc. are not at risk of falling.
