Back in 1981, a Hong Kong company purchased our software system for a company I worked for. The purchase included 5 days of on-site installation/consulting as part of the purchase. During the consulting, the client referred our software to a friend who worked at a company based in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, so we spent part of our time at the Shenzhen office.
We crossed into Shenzhen at Luohu.
At 29 years old and first time outside of the USA, (except for Canada and Mexico), it was a mind blowing experience.
It is so long ago, that I have only vague recollections of the time in Shenzhen, but there is very little relationship between what I remember and the Shenzhen of today.
The contrast between HK and Shenzhen was very dramatic.
It's amazing how much Shenzhen has changed in just 30 years.
As I remember, just about all the roads we walked on were dirt, or poorly paved roads.
Also, don’t recall any buildings more than a few stories high.
On the last day, my guide took me on a tour of Shenzhen resulting in the pictures overlooking the city.
Wish I could remember exactly where we went but too much time has passed for that.
If you have any photos from back in the day, I encourage you to share them too.
