According to a document that's been floating around WeChat for the last few days, the Shenzhen City Urban Management Administration Law Enforcement Supervision Department will be periodically checking dogs on the street, from July 10th to July 23rd, for the following:
- That they are wearing their leash;
- That their owners immediately clean up after them;
- That they are not on the list of the prohibited dogs; and
- That they are not homeless dogs;
The document also states that on July 19th there will be a massive city-wide campaign to check dogs for the above.
Most of us are completely unaware of any laws regarding dog ownership in Shenzhen; however, there are MANY. One important law to keep in mind, in the Regulations of Shenzhen Municipality on the Administration of Keeping Dogs, states that whenever you take your dog out you should carry your dog registration with you.
Failure to comply with these stated issues may result in a fine of up to five hundred yuan. Failure to pay may result in an increased fine to two thousand yuan and the confiscation of your dog(s). The penalty for the forbidden dogs is a fine of up to five thousand yuan and confiscation of the dog(s).
