Guide to Shenzhen's 1st International Wine & Dine Festival 2017 (Dec 7-10)
07 Dec 2017
The first Shenzhen International Wine & Dine Festival kicked off at 10:30am Thursday December 7th. 31 vendors from around the world have set up for the weekend to provide visitors with delicious gourmet food and drinks.
To purchase food or drink items, you need to sign up and buy vouchers, only available via wechat. If you pay 100 you get a couple of extra goodies; otherwise, you can buy in increments of 20, 40, 60 or 80.
UPDATE 3pm Dec 7th: Many vendors are now accepting cash so it appears there may not be a need to purchase anything through WeChat. We'll update this post if we notice if that changes.
Prices for food an drink items vary from vendor to vendor. When you see something you like, scan the qr code on the left, usually found on either corner of the top banner of the booth. The vendor will let you know which voucher amount they require for their item.
If you need any help, there are volunteers scattered throughout the festival; some can speak English but not all.
Here's some quick info of what we've seen so far. Check back later as we'll update this page as we see more and learn more over the weekend.
Unfortunately, the advertised giant seafood pot was nowhere to be seen on Thursday morning. We'll keep an eye out for it and post here if it pops up anywhere. As expected, the India Flying Cake was smaller (about 18 inches) than it looked in the promotion. However, there were a few notable items there at the opening.
Here's a video of the Indian booth making the India Flying Cake. They're located at booth C3 in front of Costa Coffee.
The good news is I found the Churro booth quite easily. They're located at A38 across from KOSMO. Unfortunately, they weren't ready when I was there so I haven't had a chance to try them yet.
Overall, the food looks like a bit of a disappointment; however, if you're a wine and spirits lover this festival is perfect for you. There's wine from all over the world and various types of drinks to try. While wandering around two places caught my attention. The first is Padre Azul Tequila.
Not only are their bottles quite unique, their giant ice skull sculpture, that you can drink tequila out of, stood out amongst the crowd. Their double Gold Medal winning tequila is absolutely fantastic and definitely worth a try whether tequila is your thing or not.
Next to Padre Azul these beautiful wine bottles by Charmeti also caught my eye. These could make for great Christmas gifts if you haven't gotten any already. They're located in booth A58-59 in front of Pacific Coffee.
If you need to "top up" your account, you can do so at any of the multiple booths that look like this scattered around the festival, simply by scanning the QR codes on the table.
There will also be some wine tasting classes for those that would like to improve their skills. Here's a schedule (sorry, only in Chinese).
The festival is taking up a few sections of Sea World. The main area is right in the middle of the square; however, there are some booths off to the side near Tequila Coyotes and even more down by Costa Coffee.
The festival is an all day event going on from December 7th to the 10th until 11pm. To get here, get off at the Sea World Station of Metro Line 2, Exit A and you'll walk right into it. Bon Appétit!
Every Saturday and Sunday, enjoy your choice of a Whole Roasted Chicken or a Cheese Calzone, and a bottle of red wine for just 80 RMB at Kafe Kitchen! Available for dine-in and delivery.
