At approximately 10 a.m., this morning, May 12, 2019, people began posting pictures and video online of a fire that broke out on the rooftop of a building in HuaQiangBei, Shenzhen, the world's largest electronics market.

Chen Ziqian, reporter for The First Scene, was one of the first to respond. According to witnesses, people were on the roof by an air conditioning unit spewing thick black smoke that could be seen from over half a kilometer away.

It was suspected that the fire was caused by improper operation of the staff during the removal of the cooling tower. From this perspective, it could clearly seen that a cooling tower on the top floor of the electronics building was burning.

Staff members can be seen trying to put out the fire with fire extinguishers but to no avail. Luckily, the fire department was nearby and they were quick on the scene.

In contrast to the Father's Day Fire at ChiWan Port a few years back, this fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

 

 

By 11:23 in the morning, Shenzhen Firefighters announced through the official Weibo: SEG Electronics Market, that the outdoor cooling tower on the top floor of the China Power Building, which caught fire and began smoking at 10:09 a.m. was extinguished by firefigthers.
